Election of Officers 2022-2024

Jewish Genealogical Society of Palm Beach County, Inc

 

Regular meeting and elections via Zoom

 

The meeting was called to order by President Ina Getzoff at 1 pm. She welcomed all the participants and turned the meeting over to Past President Dennis Rice, Chairperson of the 2022-2024 nominating committee, to present the slate and facilitate the election. Dennis introduced and thanked his committee for their many hours of work in preparing the slate of officers. The committee consisted of Dennis Rice, chair, Mona Morris, representing the board and Arnold Mullen, Lorreta Schindleman and Andrew Wakshul, representing the membership at large.

 

The following slate of officers were presented to the membership:

President: Beryl Cole
VPs: Eric Sharenow and Joel Sisitsky
Treasurer: Gail Ikler
Secretary: Judy Gelpey

 

The floor was opened for nominations.

 

President:
Cyndi Gerstl nominated Ina Getzoff for President. Ina was asked if she would accept the nomination and she indicated that she would.
Vice Presidents: None
Treasurer: None
Secretary: None

 

Since there were no nominations for Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary, the slate for those positions were elected by acclimation.

 

An election poll was presented on screen with the names of Beryl Cole as the nominating committee selection and Ina Getzoff as being nominated from the floor. Sixty one members were eligible to vote. The votes were cast and Beryl Cole received a majority of the votes, thus becoming the new president of the JGSPBCI for the term 2022-2024.

 

Each of the previous officers from 2020-2022, Ina Getzoff, President, Joel Sisitsky and Eric Sharenow, vice presidents, Larry Schulman, Treasurer and Ina Getzoff, acting secretary were thanked and relieved of their duties.

 

President Beryl Cole, Vice President, Eric Sharenow and Joel Sisitsky, vice Presidents, Gail Ikler, Treasurer, and Judy Gelpey, secretary were installed by Dennis Rice.

 

Dennis Rice turned over the gavel to Beryl Cole, the new President of JGSPBCI for the term 2022-2024.

 

Beryl thanked everyone for their support and introduced our guest speaker for today’s program.

 

Michelle Orelle, has been a part-time educator at the ANU Museum of the Jewish People for almost 6 years. She is a Jewish Australian who has been living in Israel for 18 years with her Israeli, born in London husband and 3 born in San Francisco sons, the youngest of whom, just finished basic training in the IDF last week. She has worked in animation, entertainment , and high tech industries in Sydney, San Francisco, and Tel Aviv. She holds a BA in Visual Arts, a Masters degree in Design and an MBA.

 

Michelle explained that ANU (which means We) Museum of the Jewish People, formerly Beit Hatfutsot ( which means Jews of the Diaspora). She took us through the multimillion dollar expansion. We toured via Zoom the new top floors of the museum. She showed us many exhibitions and explained that there are many other tours they can provide.

 

Michelle answered questions and listened to our stories of having visited Beit Hatfutsot.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 2:35pm.
