Absent: Sylvia Nusinow, Alan Huss, Mark Jacobson
President Ina Getzoff called the meeting to order at 12:59 pm.
Secretary: Beryl Cole read the minutes from our October 28, 2020 meeting. The minutes were accepted with one correction.
Treasurer: Larry Schulman reported our operating account has $26,080.98 and our reserve fund has $14,648.00. Larry explained the year end report. See attached. Dennis asked a few questions about the end of year report. Dennis wanted to know if the Civic Center staff would get their normal gratuities. Ina said she would take care of it. Has the Stern fund received their donation for this year and next? This discussion will be discussed off- line. Are we still scheduled for our regular meetings at the South County Civic Center? The answer was yes, when we can resume them after Covid 19. Are we still subscribed to Newspaper.com, Genealogy Bank, and White pages for our library. Yes, Are we paying for membership at JGSNY. Yes, per Mona, we are paying for it for their offer of free access to the Jewish.data.com. Dennis moved to accept this report. Mona seconded. The vote was unanimous.
Committee Reports: Membership
Eric Sharenow apologized to Joel for not keeping him in the loop. Eric reported 132 individual members and 42 family memberships, which equals 216 total members. Eric thanked the volunteers for making phone calls to the non-renewers. The reasons given for not renewing ranged from “lost interest” to “I plan to renew”. Walter got positive responses. Mona needs a list of the non-renewals. Larry has been keeping a list of the renewals. Dennis wants an alphabetical list of the renewals. Eric wants all the phone call information. Joel needs Marilyn Newman’s information from her calls.
Reception: Glenn Siegel said that there isn’t anything new to report.
Publicity Chair: (external ) Walter Rosenthal . Before we can do any publicity we have to decide if we are charging $5.00 guest fee. And IF we are, HOW are we going to do it. Larry Schulman looked into electronic payment with other organizations. With our new website, we will have the ability to take payment by paypal or credit cards. Larry wants this up and running before next billing cycle. Marilyn would like to see it ASAP. Ina suggested we table the electronic payment issue till next month. Joel moved that we launch the new website and Larry seconded the motion. The website , version 1.0, will be launched as soon as possible.
Publicity chair: (internal) Marilyn Lane said that there would be three emails going out for our next meeting, December 9, 2020. The first by MailChimp that John Cole will do, the second Marilyn will do and then the third will also be by MailChimp. Mona suggested we look into Constant Contact.
Programming chair: Dennis Rice said that we have speakers through April 2021. There were 81 people at our last Zoom meeting. Dennis suggested because we have not had 100 people at our meeting that we should stop paying the extra $50.00 for more people. Larry seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
Directory: Mona Freedman Morris said she had no report this month.
Website: Larry Schulman said that a lot has been done. We received the site. A lot still has to be done. We paid $80.00 to PC Revive for follow-up assistance. Joel made a motion to launch the new website ASAP. Larry seconded that motion. The motion passed. Beryl brought up Zoom etiquette. We will look into it. Larry suggested that Ina have a committee to decide what will be public and what will be private for the website.
Dennis said that there have been messages on the website for a couple of months and wants to know what is being done about them. Ina is following up on them.
Joel and Eric motioned to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 3:25 pm.
The next general membership meeting will be Wednesday, December 9th, 2020 at 1 pm on Zoom. Featured speaker is Robinn Magid.
The next board meeting will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 1pm by Zoom.
